Fundamental Doctrines of Faith with Apostle Joshua Selman – 2025 (Part 1)

What Apostle Selman taught in this part

This summary is taken from the recording above.

  • The course outline: he set out the doctrines the series would cover: the infallibility of the Word of God; God and the Godhead; man, from creation to the fall; Jesus Christ; salvation and sanctification; the Holy Spirit; the church; Satan; the ministry of angels; the believer’s growth system; and the believer’s corporate mandate.
  • The infallibility of Scripture: the Bible accurately reveals God, accurately reveals Jesus Christ, and accurately reveals man’s sinful condition and God’s plan of salvation.
  • Layers of the Bible: it can be studied as history, as doctrine, and prophetically.
  • The Word of God refers both to Jesus, the living Word (John 1:1), and to the written Word, a compendium of God’s thoughts.
  • Three blessings of holding the Word as final authority: it renews and transforms (Romans 12:2); it gives access to the wisdom of God (2 Timothy 3:15); and it gives access to the knowledge of God and His promises (1 John 5:13).
  • The doctrine of God (begun): God is eternal, with no beginning and no end, and self-existent. The teaching continues in Part 2.

More from the message

Why doctrine matters. He described the series as foundational teaching for every believer who wants to excel and be grounded in truth, explaining that a sound grasp of doctrine protects believers and helps them mature.

What infallible means. He defined infallible as accurate and without the possibility of failure. He clarified that this refers to the Bible’s ability to reveal God, to reveal Jesus Christ, and to reveal man’s sinful condition and God’s plan of salvation, first foreshadowed in prophecy in the Old Testament and then fulfilled in Christ.

Studying the Bible at different levels. The Bible can be studied as history, since many historians refer to it, as in the genealogies at the start of Matthew; as doctrine, revealing the principles and mysteries of the kingdom; and prophetically, as the Spirit applies the Word to a believer’s life.

Respecting the Word. He stressed that the Word renews and transforms only those who respect it as the speaking of God, not just those who agree with it intellectually (Romans 12:2).
